Boiler Plant Welding Story

by Ralph Roggenbuck
(Aloha, OR)

When I used to work in a boiler plant; our maintenance did a lot of 2nd, 3rd, and on up welding.

They eventually learned that a grating floor lets hot stuff drop. They accidentally burned holes through the tops of batteries for the generators. Everyone was lucky; no fire-- just ruined about $400 of batteries.

After that they always watched and put welder blankets below them during any above floor welding.

Pretty cheap lesson really.
