Good Welding Project for a Beginner

by James Hardy
(Sydney, Australia)

I am still learning to weld and can call myself a newbie to welding. I just finished making a metal coffee mug with copper. I used a flat copper plate that I cut to size. Then using the bending machine, I made it a cylinder. I soldered the seam. Then, soldered a flat plate on the bottom which I later cut around the base.

Then I took a copper tube and made a handle by cutting roughly 6 inches of 1/4 inch diameter pipe. Just pressed the ends and bend them inwards so that I could solder it to the cup.

The mug looks good but is very simple. I plan to make some decorative shapes using the off-cuts and weld them to the handle.

I am sharing this project because it is a great welding project for a beginner.
