Is A Used Tig Welder The Way To Go?

What to look for in a used Tig Welder -- So you have decided to take the plunge and purchase a second hand Tig welder for all your welding needs. Many would ask why you are thinking of buying a second hand Tig welder instead of a new one but this is generally because of cost.

Although cost wise buying a used Tig welder is a great option when compared to purchasing a new one there are a few details to look our for to ensure you are getting value for money and the right welder for your work.

Below are a few important factors to take into account when thinking of buying a second hand Tig Welder.

Brand Name

First of all brand name is important, unlike clothing where it is simply a fashion statement, for used Tig welders brand name is essential. Choosing a low cost unknown branded Tig welder produced in China will give you a welder that performs to a satisfactory level but you will also take delivery of a welder that is potentially unreliable and lacking in support should an issue arise.

Look for a brand name you can trust, a brand that offers a quality product that other welders can attest too.

Power Output

Tig welders come in both AC and DC power output options. Of the two power outputs DC is safer and easier to start with than its AC counterpart but it runs at a low peak voltage. Finding the right power output is vital to ensuring you get the welder you require.

Welding Thickness

A Tig welder needs to be able to weld a good thickness of metal for it to be worth purchasing, there is nothing worse than purchasing a used Tig welder and finding its not up to the task you want it for. An example of this is if your wishing to weld cars for instance you can use a Tig welder that can weld up to 3mm but for thicker metal you need something a little more powerful.

Summary

Remember that buying a second hand Tig welder is a great option as you can get a better quality welder at a lower price but it is important to shop around and find the right welder for your requirements otherwise you could end up with a welder that doesn't fulfill the desired outcome you want.
