Welding Cart Suggestions
The mig welding cart: MIG welding basically deals with welding of metal sheets. The equipment used for carry out this welding is not bulky and cumbersome. The only part that would seam cumbersome is the inert gas bottle that needs to be carried along with the MIG welding plant. The inert gas is required for the shielding of the welded part during the process of welding. This is the most important part of the welding, as absence of use of the gas will cause impurities to penetrate into the surface or the weld puddle causing welding defects.
A lot of field welding is done using the MIG welding plant. The necessity of a transportation trolley or mig welding cart is the most required item when carrying out welding. Further the trolley should be able to support the filler material that it carries as spares and the cables that needs to be carried for the connectivity of the torch to the plant. The part that is most required in a welding trolley or cart is the requirement of a power supply plug point. Almost all welding machines are able to give you only a short length of power cord. This power cord in most cases is insufficient for field work as the commercial power supply is located at a place away from the place of work. So it would be quite nice if a welding trolley has an option where by there is an extra power supply cord and this power supply cord can be neatly wound and stacked when not in use. Keeping these above points in mind let us take a look at a few mig welding carts that are available in the market and the ones that we could possibly modify to meet our requirements. Steven Belair of Gladewater Texas demonstrated how he could modify a trolley to meet his requirements. He was in the habit of using a standard 20-foot cord for his welding requirements and he wanted a place where he could roll up the cable on his welding trolley. He carried out the modifications of his welding trolley to meet his requirements and with insulation and grounding of the reel he felt fully safe when carrying out welding. There are standard mig welding trolleys and carts that are available from Lincoln electric company. However most of these carts are without gas carrying capacities. This could be more of a safety measure than an inadequacy. Some of the carts are Utility cart Lincoln K-2275, Heavy duty welding cart torch tank style type, MIL 194776 (also used for transporting plasma welding plant), welding cart of 100 pound weight capacity. There are however certain models of welding plants that come with a trolley as a part of the standard accessory. There are trolleys that are available only for the transportation of inert gas cylinders. These trolleys are available along with the cart or can be purchased separately.
