welding galvinized metal

by Charles Cole
(Empire, Al)

There was a tip here recently about welding galvanized metal. The gas it emits when heated is toxic and will make you sick. If you are welding with out gas just use a large fan at the work area (out doors of course) But if you are using gas this will not work.

Here is my tip:
Use muratic acid (muriatic acid?) to eat the galvanized coating off the metal. This works very well for bolts and screws that are coated. Just drop the parts in the acid for a few seconds to remove the coating. Use the proper safety gear when using acid (gloves and goggles) Now you are ready to weld without worrying about the fumes.
