Welding Jacket Tips
A welding jacket is a necessity for most welderes. For any welder safety is paramount and never far from their thoughts. This happens because of the heat and potential dangers associated with welding. Whether you are MIG, TIG or spot welding there is the potential for welding spatter to melt through your clothing and burn through your skin. Because of the heat generated from welders welding burns can be not only painful but on large areas can cause serious health problems. For the reason stated above a welding jacket is an important and integral part of a welder's safety equipment. All welders take safety very seriously and because of this always ensure they have a quality welding outfit to keep them safe while carrying out welding work. Welding jackets of a higher quality also tend to have Kevlar stitching and reinforced material on the front to offer extra protection and withstand more thermal and mechanical stress. When choosing a welding outfit always look for one that has a cover over the front zip or fastener section and also has a high collar as these offer further protection. Another important note is to check the quality of the material the welding jacket is made of to ensure it offers full heat resistant protection.
Welding jackets are generally made of leather as leather is a strong and durable material that can easily withstand welding spatter without letting the heat transfer through the material. Higher quality jackets are made of a higher quality leather that tends to be thinner than cheaper welding jackets. Thinner leather offers the welder more flexibility in their movements.
A top tip is that many welders choose a bright colored jacket such as blue, green or red. This is not a fashion conscious decision rather it is one that offers them some extra protection as the bright color of the welding jacket makes them more visible to others in the working area.
