Welding Job Interview Follow Up: Welding Job Step #5

Follow up After an Interview to Increase your Chance of a Welding Job

Don't just go home after you have your interview with an employer. Instead, take the opportunity to tip the scales in your favor. There may be some difficult decisions to be made with the employer after they are done with the interviews. If you follow up though it can give you the edge that encourages them to offer you the job.

Follow up with a Phone Call or a Note

It is a good idea to follow up with either a phone call or a note. This is why it is important to get the name of the person that conducts your interview. If the interviewer told you that they will make a decision in the next week then you are fine to send a note. It should thank them for taking the time to interview you for the welding job.

It should also tell them that after the interview you are even more excited about the job opening. Let them know you are confident you are the right person to do that job. Include your name and phone number and get it in the mail right away.

If the decision for the position will be decided in a day or two, you should call to follow up. If you have a job interview in the morning you can do it later that afternoon. If you have an afternoon interview then you should do it the following morning.

When you follow up after a job interview, it definitely shows the employer that you have initiative. They want to hire someone that will be there on time, to work when they are scheduled, and that take responsibility for their work. Your actions with the follow up will indicate that you really want the job.

Be Available

Try to be available after you have been to a job interview or two for a welding job. You may be called for a second interview or to be offered the job. If they can't reach you in a timely fashion though they may have to hire someone else. If you can't answer your phone all the time, make sure you do check your messages often.

Evaluate your Interview to Improve in the Future

A job interview can be stressful but you need to give yourself credit for what you do correctly in it. Take the time to evaluate the results of your interviews. If you didn't like your answer to certain questions think about what you will say in future job interviews that can make it go better.

As you do more welding job interviews you will become confident in your abilities. Keep in mind that there is a tight job market out there. You may have to go through several interviews before you get hired for a welding job. Keep your attitude positive and believe in yourself. The right job for you will come along and then you can put your welding skills into action.
